Container office construction, cargotecture
Overview
We needed a proof of concept so we built our own office. Our sister company Salient provides Electrical and Mechanical services throughout the UK and with sustained growth our in-house team had expanded to the point where new office space was a must. Salient’s projects focus on the higher end of install work where aesthetics matter and we needed an office that reflected our work.
The build started with two 40 ft shipping containers placed on top of other shipping containers to create a larger first floor space.
Internally we didn’t wish to retain a storage container aesthetic and so we used traditional building methods and materials to create internal walls and floors. Keeping the interior on brand, we focused on a muted Blue and Gray palette, with a richer space blue feature wall of which incorporated recessed lighting strips for lighting ambience.
We constructed two bespoke seating booths, one of which is in the reception area and the other extrudes and hangs outside of the container creating a much acoustically quieter space to take phone calls etc.
Due to the differing method of using spray Polyurethane insulation we decided not to board the ceiling like the walls, but instead create a staggered timber beam ceiling which is not only aesthetically beautiful but provides great cover for any wiring and containment whilst not taking away any feeling of height.
Given the bare container exterior, the office absorbs heat very well so rather than allowing for gas services we opted for a propane heating system for the winter months and air conditioning for the summer months.
Integrated lighting, all controllable via Alexa, Google or smartphones.
Lighting is a big aspect of what we do; to have it fully integratable with all the latest technologies makes bespoke control a breeze. Upon greeting Alexa in the morning, the lighting and radio all turn on along with raising the security shutter.
Maximise on smaller spaces in style with open planning and large windows
Open plan design combined with large windows creates a feel of a much larger space and with the open ceiling we’re really maximising on the internal height too. The timber ceiling arrangement creates an spacious and artistic feel.
